It is with gratitude that the Board of Directors of Violence Free Colorado announces the resignation of Amy Miller, executive director. Ms. Miller tendered her resignation on February 17 and will continue to support the organization through March 31, 2021.
“On behalf of the board of directors, coalition members, and staff, I would like to thank Amy for her 13 years of service to Violence Free Colorado. Her passion for ending gender-based and relationship violence has been integral to the organization’s success, and we are grateful for all the ways she has supported this movement,” said Adam Evans, co-chair of the board. “We are excited for the future of the organization and remain focused on serving as a unified voice taking collective action on public policy and systems change and working together toward the elimination of violence.”
Ms. Miller’s tenure as executive director started in 2014 after serving in the role of public policy director since 2008. During her time at the coalition, Violence Free Colorado has undergone a complete rebranding, launched a housing and economic justice program, collaborated to develop and implement a statewide prevention program – Stand Up Colorado, passed nine significant pieces of legislation and achieved numerous other legislative victories, and experienced sustainable growth in revenue, staff, and coalition membership.
“As I reflect on my past and the better world that is possible, I know this transformative time is right for me to step aside and make space for the possibility of leadership by those who have been marginalized by the anti-violence movement. Over the past two decades dedicated to addressing gender-based violence, I have had the privilege of working alongside thousands of courageous, resilient and resourceful survivors, advocates, and movement leaders. Together, we have struggled, learned, grown and achieved so much. I will always appreciate getting to know so many of you and am especially grateful to those who extended support and grace as I worked through my learning edges,” said Ms. Miller, “I don’t know what new challenges I will embrace, but I look forward to an opportunity to rest and restore myself, making it possible to determine where I will journey next. I hope we will stay connected no matter the divergent paths we may take.”
Ms. Miller will work closely with the board of directors in the coming weeks to ensure that Violence Free Colorado continues to deliver on its mission of advancing the well-being of all Coloradans through relationships free from abuse and oppression.
Due to the continued presence of COVID-19 in our state, we will not coordinate a gathering to commemorate Ms. Miller’s accomplishments, but we encourage the community to send messages of support her way at amiller@violencefreeco.org.
