Violence Free Colorado (Violence Free Colorado) recently received a HopeLine® from Verizon grant of $20,000 to expand its work. Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program supports domestic violence prevention and awareness programs in Colorado and nationwide.
“This generous donation from Verizon Wireless will help us connect Colorado advocates to best practices and emerging issues by providing access to unique training and education opportunities,” said Pat Tessmer, Violence Free Colorado’s Advocacy and Resources Director. “It will be used to provide cost-effective, flexible training for the staff and volunteers of Violence Free Colorado’s domestic violence program members and other affiliated programs across Colorado through the development and implementation of additional courses for the state-of-the-art online learning center. It will also support the expansion of our resource library available to members through our website.”
The HopeLine program collects no-longer used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any wireless carrier. Phones that can be refurbished are sold for reuse and those without value are disposed of in an environmentally sound way. Proceeds from the program are used to provide wireless phones and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.
