Violence Free Colorado is a statewide coalition committed to ending relationship abuse through advocacy, collaboration, and social change. We believe violence persists when it is tolerated and that lasting change requires centering survivors, challenging oppression in all its forms, and building power together. Our work is grounded in dignity, transparency, accountability, and justice.

We recognize that leadership is strengthened by diverse pathways and experiences. We deeply value lived experience of violence, marginalization, and systems of oppression, and we believe lived experience, alongside professional experience, is a powerful form of expertise.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Executive Director who brings vision, courage, and care to lead our coalition into its next chapter. This role blends strategic leadership with relationship‑centered, hands‑on work. The Executive Director partners closely with the Board, staff, members, survivors, and allies to advance advocacy, strengthen programs, steward resources responsibly, and cultivate a healthy, values‑aligned organizational culture. Position is expected to be in the Denver office at least 4 times a month or more often as duties require.

What You’ll Do

Lead with Vision & Integrity

  • Champion survivor‑centered, anti‑oppression advocacy at the state and national levels
  • Shape and advance short‑ and long‑term strategy in partnership with staff, members, and the Board
  • Stay engaged with emerging issues and trends in domestic violence and social justice work locally, statewide and nationally.

Partner with the Board

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner and primary liaison to the Board of Directors
  • Support strong governance, transparent communication, and leadership development
  • Advocate for organizational culture, leadership succession, and recruitment of new member

Strengthen Programs & Impact

  • Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of programs, training, and policy work that may include reviewing existing policies, assessing their impact, and engaging with key partners
  • Maintain and improve high-quality training, technical assistance, and services for members
  • Ensure accountability to members, survivors, and the Coalition’s strategic goals

Steward Resources

  • Oversee budgeting, financial systems, and compliance with care and responsibility
  • Manage a comprehensive fundraising and grant‑seeking strategy to sustain and grow our work

Build Relationships & Visibility

  • Act as the Coalition’s primary ambassador, including in-person meetings on boards across Colorado and beyond
  • Cultivate meaningful partnerships with members, funders, policymakers, and community allies
  • Increase statewide visibility and collaborative engagement

Support People & Culture

  • Hire, train, mentor, and support a talented and diverse staff team
  • Foster a workplace culture rooted in respect, collaboration, sustainability, and learning
  • Support recruitment and retention of a vibrant, engaged membership

Who You Are

  • You’re a collaborative, equity‑centered leader who believes deeply in collective liberation and survivor self‑determination. You bring experience in nonprofit leadership, lead advocacy, and resource development to the work. You lead with humility, curiosity, and care.

You’ll Bring:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a human services–related field.
  • At least five years of nonprofit leadership, supervision, and/or direct service experience
  • Strong understanding of domestic violence and systems change
  • Experience with fundraising, grants, supervision, and organizational management
  • Preferred experience in coalition work or coalition building

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $105,000-$120,000 per year

Benefits include: generous paid vacation, sick pay, paid holidays, employer retirement contribution, full health/vision/dental coverage for employee, and monthly internet stipend. Professional development funds based upon budget.
