SUMMARY:Rest and Restore: A Self Care Workshop for Helping Professionals
DESCRIPTION:What has been the cost of this work on you? \nThe impact of the last (almost) two years on helping professionals – social workers\, teachers\, health care workers\, etc\, is undeniable. Perhaps this experience has created the most professional fatigue for you yet. How about sharing some intentional space together while we focus on taking care of you? \nThis workshop is intended for helping professionals of all kinds to gather together to understand the impact of this work on our nervous systems\, how it shows up in everyday life\, and learn how to tune into our bodies to nourish our depleted selves. \nThe content of this workshop is also guided by the framework that we currently live in at the intersectionality of oppression and how our work and sense of self is seen through that lens. \nPlease join at 6-7 p.m. MST Thursday\, Dec. 2. \nTo register: https://restrestore.eventbrite.com \n  \nHosted by Megan Burch of Joy Creek Counseling: \nIncreasing access to support and the redistribution of wealth is important to me. Cost is based on a justice pricing model. Before selecting your ticket price\, please consider the following: \n-Your intersectionality with identities that have historically and currently experience oppression \n-Your access to privilege and intergenerational wealth \n-Your current employment situation and/or student status \nSuggested ticket prices are $5\, $10\, or $15 based on your personal circumstances. \nFor more information about me\, please visit my website at https://www.joycreekcounseling.com/

SUMMARY:Hope Gala
DESCRIPTION:SafeHouse Denver is proud to announce our signature annual event. The Hope Gala is returning to an in-person format this year on Saturday\, October 9th at 6pm. Get ready to #InspireHope2021! \nThe event will include passed hors d’oeuvres\, gourmet dinner stations\, live entertainment\, a silent auction\, and an empowering\, mission-focused program. We are thrilled to be back at The Ritz-Carlton Denver\, which is diligently working with us to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. \nSafeHouse Denver is proud to honor longtime supporter Ramona Gomoll with the Susan Noble Community Impact Award. This award recognizes individuals who take a public stand against domestic violence and use their influence to affect community change. As a survivor of domestic violence\, Ramona has found freedom in sharing her story. Her work as a human resources executive has made her a business leader in both the public and private sectors\, educating thousands of colleagues about domestic violence and the challenges that survivors face. Ramona also served on our Board of Directors from 2015-2019. \nAll proceeds will benefit the adults\, children\, and youth served by SafeHouse Denver\, the City and County’s only domestic violence prevention and intervention agency that provides a full continuum of care through an Emergency Shelter\, Counseling\, and Advocacy Center and Extended Stay Program.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Stalking: Slow Motion Homicide
DESCRIPTION:Through this case study and testimony\, speaker Anna Nasset walks first responders\, victim service providers\, and legal offices through the step by step process a victim goes through on their road to justice. Having been a victim/survivor of stalking for over a decade Anna has been working with advocates\, law enforcement\, prosecuting attorneys\, and more since 2011 to find justice and peace. With the historic 2019 conviction (felony aggravated stalking and felony cyberstalking) and sentencing (10 years – one of the longest sentences for stalking in our nation’s history) of the man who stalked her\, Anna is able to guide listeners on best practices. Anna shares her views on the dos and don’ts when dealing with victims of crime\, how to empower and give them agency in the process\, and the importance of meeting victims where they are at. She uses actual court documents and evidence\, statistics\, and data of other victims\, language from the team that found her justice\, and her victim impact statement to educate. While Anna’s case is for the crime of stalking\, the knowledge and approach she puts forth can be taken into working with any victim of crime – leading to empathic and empowering results. Walking away from this session participants will have a better understanding and skill set to walk a victim/survivor through the process with resiliency so that the individual can move toward recovery. \n  \nTo register: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/5707592760167019279

SUMMARY:Violence Free Colorado October Brown Bag
DESCRIPTION:Colorado-Specific Research on Child Custody Evaluators\nOctober 13 at noon (MST) \nLittle is known about Colorado child custody evaluations and the professionals who complete them. Almost no public data can be located regarding evaluator backgrounds\, how many custody evaluations occur in Colorado every year\, and how many involve allegations of intimate partner violence (IPV). Effectively assessing IPV in child custody disputes is critical to ensure decision-making abilities and parenting time orders are ultimately in the best interest of children. \nThis webinar is based on a Capstone group project titled Colorado Child Custody Evaluators’ Professional Background and Practices of Intimate Partner Violence. With the permission of her MSW research group\, Yolanda is sharing the results and key implications\, so we may all better understand the role child custody evaluators play in assessing intimate partner violence (IPV) in child custody evaluations. This research project consisted of a self-administered anonymous survey of child custody evaluators in Colorado. Study results highlight consideration areas for Colorado including minimum standards\, policy reform\, and future research. \nPresenter: \nYolanda Arredondo is the Intake and Assessment Administrator for the Colorado Division of Child Welfare. She graduated in December 2019 from Colorado State University with a Master of Social Work degree. She has worked in the child welfare field for 13 years and prior to that in the domestic violence field for 8 years. \nREGISTER NOW
