SUMMARY:Beyond the Safety Pin: #JaggedJustice Post-Election Accountability & Action
DESCRIPTION:A call has been made for people who want to express support for the African-American/Black\, Latinx\, Muslim\, LGBTQ\, and other marginalized communities experiencing high levels of fear during these uncertain times\, to wear a safety pin to demonstrate that tartgeted commuities are “safe” in their presence. While this is a show of solidarity\, is it enough? \nThis workshop will examine post-election backlash and the actions and reactions to race\, gender\, immigration\, sovereignty and other issues causing a broad range of concerns and responses to what the Women of Color Network\, Inc. (WOCN\, Inc.) has defined as “#JaggedJustice.” \n#JaggedJustice seeks to galvanize a collective voice in solidarity with those who have lost their lives\, and with survivors of individual and collective acts of violence. Presenters will guide participants in connecting the dots between issues of oppression and the experiences of survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The concept of becoming an aspiring ally\, options for providing victim support\, and other strategies for resistance and change will be explored. \nRegular – $75\, Student – $35\, Live Stream – $50 \nLocation: \nLawrence Street Center \n1380 Lawrence Street \nTerrace Room (2nd Floor) \nDenver\, CO 80204

SUMMARY:The Denver Vagina Monologues
DESCRIPTION:An Obie Award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone\, The Vagina Monologues introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices\, including a six-year-old girl\, a septuagenarian New Yorker\, a vagina workshop participant\, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter\, a Bosnian survivor of rape\, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.” \nIn 2017 we are shining the Spotlight on Violence Against Women In the Workplace. \nViolence against women at work takes place every day\, in every country\, across socio-economic levels – from laborers to company executives\, to waitresses and teachers\, at-home mothers\, nurses\, farmworkers\, factory workers\, actors\, and domestic workers.** The additional layer of exploitation is that\, in many cases\, women facing workplace violence are vulnerable and impeded from speaking out or seeking justice for fear of losing their job. All of this is happening in the context of a global economic reality where it is increasingly difficult for women to even earn a livable wage. \nThis year\, we are honoring the sacred and valuable work of women around the world\, in all its forms\, by demanding safe\, violence-free workplaces. The money raised by the 2017 Spotlight Campaign will provide support to groups working to eradicate sexual and gender violence in places of work. \nThis year’s donations will benefit Violence Free Colorado and The Crisis Center.
